Optical interconnection provisioning in Data Center (HPC system as well) draws lots of interests thanks to its high bandwidth provisioning capability and power efficiency. At the same time, since the throughput of traffic in DC is fluctuating through time, it is quite critical to adjust the optical connectivity and bandwidth allocation dynamically according to the actual traffic pattern. Compared with general MEMS enabled OCS connection, OTDM system with optical fast switch is an alternative way to provide optical interconnection but still keeping benefit from bandwidth/port sharing. Some recent research will be introduced including an OTDM based intra-rack interconnection with sFlow based elephant flow detection and an ultrafast DPDK based online connectivity and bandwidth allocator.
Shanguo Huang received the Ph.D. degree from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications (BUPT), Beijing, P. R. China, in 2006. He is currently a professor in the State Key Laboratory of Information Photonics and Optical Communications (IPOC), dean in School of Science and vice director of IPOC, in BUPT, P. R. China. He has been actively undertaking several national projects, published 3 books and more than 150 journals and refereed conferences, and authorized 20 patents. He was awarded the Beijing Higher Education Young Elite Teacher, the Beijing Nova Program, the Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University from the Ministry of Education, in 2011-2013, and the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars, in 2016 respectively, His current research interests include the optical network designing, planning, the traffic control and resource allocations, especially network routing algorithms and performance analysis.
